Hello and thank you for taking time to visit my store and reading about why I started Hercules Prime.  Like many of you, I often wondered if taking vitamins, minerals and other supplements such as protein powder, amino acids and natural extracts are really that beneficial for my well being.  After all, I do not shy away from the dinner table!  But the more I researched and read articles about nutritional health products the more I understood their vital importance.  Vitamins and minerals are often called micro-nutrients because our body needs only tiny amounts of them.  Yet failing to get even those small quantities virtually guarantees disease.  Every day, our body produces skin, muscle, and bone.  It churns out rich red blood that carries nutrients and oxygen to remote outposts, and it sends nerve signals skipping along thousands of miles of brain and body pathways.  It also formulates chemical messengers that shuttle from one organ to another, issuing the instructions that help sustain our life.

But to do all this, our body requires some raw materials.  These include at least 30 vitamins, minerals, and dietary components that our body needs but cannot manufacture on its own in sufficient amounts.  Vitamins and minerals are considered essential nutrients—because acting in concert, they perform hundreds of roles in the body.  They help shore up bones, heal wounds, and bolster our immune system.  They also convert food into energy, and repair cellular damage.  But trying to keep track of what all these vitamins and minerals do can be confusing.  I read many articles on the topic, and my eyes began to swim with the alphabet-soup references to these nutrients, which are known mainly by their initials (such as vitamins A, B, C, D, E, and K—to name just a few).

Although they are all considered micro-nutrients, vitamins and minerals differ in basic ways.  Vitamins are organic and can be broken down and depleted of their essence by heat, air, or acid.  Minerals are inorganic and hold on to their chemical structure.  So why does this matter you may ask?  It means the minerals in soil and water easily find their way into your body through the plants, fish, animals, and fluids you consume.  But it’s tougher to shuttle vitamins from food and other sources into our body because cooking, storage, and simple exposure to air can inactivate these more fragile compounds.  I could go on for several more pages on my discoveries, but I believe you can now see the importance of these supplements.  I want everyone to have this knowledge, weather you workout 7 days a week or drive by the gym on your way to the donuts shop.  Being that I do work out a few days a week and I do love donuts, I am both of those people!  Being "fit" is different for each of us, but being truly healthy is essential for all of us.

How did I come up with the name "Hercules Prime"?

If you have ever tried to start a company or blog or even come up with an email address, you often found that the name you wanted was already taken.  I came up with several names for the company but they of course were being used.  The name needed to portray health and strength as well as project a positive image.  I have a bust of Hercules in my back yard which gave me the idea of using him in the company name.  Being that Greek/Roman mythology has always interested me, I figured Hercules would be a figure which most people would recognize.  After several attempts at names I came up with Hercules Prime.  You most likely will not get as big and strong as Hercules, but the main reason to use these products is to be as healthy as possible.  Living a longer quality life is obtainable if you keep your body filled with good food and supplements to help it along the way.

Thank you and have a healthy day.
